Everest Academy is sponsored by Everest Family Ministry in the Birmingham Metro Area. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

  • Homeschool Shoebox Swap - This is a Yahoo list for homeschool families to swap "shoeboxes" that reflect their geographical area and their family.  We do a list once a month(on the 2 or 3 of the month). After that list closes, it can take a week or so to put the list together because of large number of people swapping. So you should have your swap partner by the 10th of the month.  We swap inexpensive packages that contain items that are representative of where we live. Let the kids make a card or a picture of your house, or share something they love about their area.  Http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hsshoeboxswap/
  • National Geographic Bee - "Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge... Bee registration is open to schools and homeschool associations with students in grades four through eight who are not over the age of 15 by the time of the national level. A student must be enrolled in a school or homeschool association that is registered with the Bee. Also, students of the eligible grade levels must be following a school schedule and academic course load comparable to the majority of the student's grade-mates and age-mates. A student may not be enrolled in more than two academic courses at the high school and/or college level during each school year of the competition. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/society/ngo/geobee/
