One of the first things I truly believe you should become involved with as a homeschooler is a support group. Field trips are very limited in what they can do for finding new friendships. You need to be involved with a group that communicates on a regular basis. Lucky for us, Alabama offers lots of support networks and resources.
I have listed below all of the Alabama-based homeschooling support groups that I could find including Yahoo Support Groups, Facebook, and others. I only included the ones that looked active and moderated. As always, this is not an endorsement but rather for your information. The final decision as to what you choose to become involved with is yours.

South Alabama Support Groups
Enterprise Homeschool Support Group
The Enterprise Homeschool Support Group is just a support group. We are a group of moms, dads, grandparents and children that get together to enjoy each other’s company and learn about the world around us. We usually have a field trip or two each month (September – May), a co-op class running at any given time, mom’s nights out and lots of “chit-chat” by email. The eprisehschool e-mail loop is for you to communicate on. It has become a clearing house of information for many different activities in the area. Anything you come across that would benefit our families, please post it! Have an idea for an outing or activity? Organize it and post it! Before you plan out your activity, take a moment to check the calendar on the yahoo group site – that way you don’t over book a date. After you’ve planned your activity, please add your event to the calendar for others to reference. At the beginning of each month I will send a posting of all the events on the calendar for the month, just a bit of a reminder.
No one person is in charge of our list – there is no administration. We have two moderators on the group that simply monitor the postings to be sure everything is of benefit to our families. We hope you enjoy the group – our families are pretty fantastic and we’ve had lots of fun in the past. Keep in mind, however, that our group is only as good as you make it. If you don’t see something happening that you wish your children could be involved in, than start it! Chances are there are others who wish to have the same thing!
