JUHSB is very excited to announce that we will be resuming marching band after a hiatus for the past several years. We are opening this to all homeschooler musicians in Georgia and Alabama
who wish to attend. We are in the West Georgia and East Alabama area, but there is no limitation – if you are willing to drive to the rehearsals, you are welcome to participate! There will be no requirement to attend additional classes with us – you can be enrolled in only marching band. We would love to have more participants! The more students who participate, the more opportunities our students have!

In general, marching band wind instruments are flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, mellophones (for French horn players), trombones, baritone/euphoniums, tubas. Percussion encompasses an unlimited number of things. PIANISTS – there is room for you in the "pit" if you would like to participate! We will offer both "battery" (snares, bass drums, and cymbals on the field) and "pit" (xylophone and other percussion keyboards, as well as cymbals, claves, wood blocks, etc. that are on the sidelines playing during the performance). Any student who has completed one semester of band as of May 2010 is eligible. There will be a short low-pressure audition required in order to verify level of ability.
Young ladies have the opportunity to participate in Colorguard (flags). For those concerned, I would like to verify up front that they will have VERY conservative uniforms, and there will be no dancing involved. No experience is necessary, as they will be taught all of the basics as well as their routine.
We will hold a semi-traditional marching band camp this summer. Post-camp, rehearsals will most likely be on Friday evenings or Saturdays. We will attend 3 competitions (just like public school bands) in September and October. We may do several parades, depending on scheduling issues and participation.
If you are interested, please contact me immediately. We will be holding a planning meeting at my home (Bremen, GA) on Saturday, April 10th where we will discuss issues such as scheduling band camp and post-camp rehearsals, parades, logistics, etc. Attending the planning meeting means that your voice will be heard during the planning process. We have not scheduled a location for camp or rehearsals, as we will be waiting to see what area the students are coming from. We will be doing our best to make it a central location for all who wish to attend. Also, the cost per student for marching band will be able to be better established once we see how many students are interested and make decisions on what we will be participating in. As with most things, more students = less money per student. I understand that the economy is killing all of us. I have always done my very best to only charge the minimum amount required to sustain the program, and marching band is no exception.
Remember, you MUST contact me if you are interested and/or would like to attend the planning meeting!
Many blessings!
