Teen Court is a REAL court for first-time juvenile offenders who have been charged with non-violent misdemeanors. Defendants are represented and prosecuted by teen attorneys and go before a jury of their peers who decides how the defendant will be held accountable by rendering a sentence for the defendant. Sentencing includes mandatory service on the Teen Court jury and an oral apologize to parents/guardians. Additional sentences may include community service, finding employment, attending job skills training class, attending ASAP and/or adhering to a curfew.
Teen volunteers serve as attorneys, clerks, bailiffs, and jurors. Volunteers receive community service hours for their service. For more information about the Teen Court program, click here.
To apply, teens must live or attend school in Jefferson County and be entering 8th – 12th grade.
