Debbi - Can you please forward this to the Everest group or include it in your next newsletter? I wanted to share an opportunity that some of the teens or moms might be interested in. My family has recently gotten involved with the Discovery Clubs of Alabama. This organization provides an opportunity to share Jesus with kids in public schools all through out Jefferson county. The Discovery Clubs conduct an after school bible club in 100 schools in the Birmingham area. Volunteers can serve as little as 2 hours per week (one club meeting) or choose to get more involved and help with multiple clubs. It's a great opportunity to share the love of Jesus, to share God's love with kids who may not attend church or ever hear God's word, to show love to a child who is hungry for positive attention. I'm including a link to their website below. Training for volunteers begins in August so it's not too late to get involved for the upcoming school year!
To serve as a volunteer, you must be at least 16 years old so I thought this would be a great opportunity for some of the teens in our home school group. Also, moms who may want to get involved but have kids younger than 16 are also welcome and can bring their children along with them when they serve! I have been assured that my twin 10 year old daughters are more than welcome to come along with me when I perform my volunteer duties.
I hope some of you will prayerfully consider this opportunity to share God's love in the public schools with children who so desperately need to hear it!
