Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Marriage Resources

This post was originally generated in 2010 and updated since then. If you find any outdated info, please let me know.  If your family has successfully utilized a resource that you feel would be of benefit to others that is not listed below, please let me know at everestacademy1@gmail.com

I am a firm believer that one of the main issues facing our society today is the break down in the family unit stemming from broken marriages.  Most children are not being raised by both parents, instead have step moms and step dads, some even living with relatives outside of their immediate family.  I have listed below several resources that other Everest Academy members have used and recommended as having a positive influence on their marriage.
  • "Love & Respect" by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
  • "From Angry to Intimacy" by Gary Smalley
  • "Love Dare" by Stephen Kendrick, Alex Kendrick, Lawrence Kimbrough with the corresponding movie "Fireproof"
  • "Respect Dare" by Nina Roesner
  • "Created to be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl
  • "The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman
  • "Love & War" John & Staci Eldredge's
  • "Sex Begins in the Kitchen" by Dr. Kevin Leman's
  • "Intimacy Ignited" by Dillow & Pintus
  • "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus" by John Grey
  • "His Needs Her Needs" by Willard F. Harley
  • "Boundries - When to say Yes, When to say No to take control of your life" by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend - There are also "Boundries with Kids" and "Boundries in Marriage" books.

  • "Fireproof" with the accompanying book "The Love Dare"
  • "Marriage God's Way" Micheal and Debi Pearl

Marriage Counseling

  • Argo - Clearbranch United Methodist Church in Argo has marriage counseling.
  • Bham - Personal Relationships is the longest operating missions organization in Birmingham. We walk with couples in crisis as sponsors or coaches so to speak. One pastor described us as "Counselors that work with people in the last inning of the game with 3 strikes and 2 outs." Please visit our web site for more information. We would love to work with any one you know in a crisis situation in their marriage and would really love to come share our story that led us to this kind of ministry with you or your church.
  • Bham/McDonald's Chapel - Dr. Jimmie Hutchins is on the ministry team at Open Door Church 781-6060 in McDonald's Chapel.
  • Bham - Catholic Family Services 2164 11th Avenue South Birmingham, AL 35205.  They offer free counseling.(205) 324-6561
  • Gardendale - Nelson Hannah at Gardendale First Baptist Church rocks.
  • Madison - The very brief version is that we both hold Master's of Counseling from Denver Seminary, and my husband is in private practice as a marriage counselor (I was until my second child came, and now I enjoy being an at-home mom). My husband's office number is 256-520-5758 and he sees people at Asbury Counseling Center in Madison on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and he sees people at Willowbrook Baptist Church on Wednesdays and Fridays.  For more information, contact Julie Nash Stewart on Facebook.
  • Rome, GA - Winshape Retreat Center in Rome GA has lot's of couples and marriage things.

If you have utilized a resource successfully, including books, DVDs, marriage counseling etc., please share the information with us at everestacademy1@gmail.com
