COMPASS Christian Home Educators of NE Alabama is open to all Christian families, regardless of cover school affiliation. We seek to provide homeschooling parents with an avenue for networking and forming support systems with other homeschoolers through our newsletter, online support groups, email loops, co-op classes, field trips, park days, skate days, 4-H, homeschool clubs, soccer teams and other annual events such as our Kickoff and Curriculum Fair.
Benefits of membership include: one laminated educator card per family, quarterly hard copy or e-newsletters, free "Services" ads, discounted business ads, yahoo & facebook membership (members only), a discounted table at the annual book sale, and access to organized field trips & activities. The COMPASS CHRISTIAN HOME EDUCATORS SUPPORT GROUP Kick-off is set for Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 10am - Noon at the Rainbow City Park. This support group serves families in NE Alabama - Etowah, DeKalb, Marshall, Cherokee, Calhoun, Blount, St. Clair, and Talladega Counties. Membership forms will be available along with activity, club, and field trip sign-ups for COMPASS Members. Membership dues will remain at $5 this year. All homeschoolers are welcome to join!
USED CURRICULUM, HANDI-CRAFTS, & SERVICES: Families are encouraged to bring used curriculum and homeschool-related materials to sell or swap. Please bring change and decide in advance if you'll accept checks. Children are also welcome to sell homemade items (jewelry & handicrafts) or advertise area services (such as babysitting, mowing, computer skills, etc).
HOMESCHOOL CLASSES / TUTORING SERVICES/ CHURCH & COMMUNITY EVENTS: Anyone who is teaching a class this year, offering tutoring services, sponsoring an area homeschool event or club, or would like to promote a 2011-12 community event (event must be open to homeschool families) is welcome to attend and bring sign-up & information forms to set out for the group. Please wear a name tag listing your name & activity offered. If you forget, please request a name tag from Denise Driskell or Sonya Thrasher.
PLEASE NOTE: The annual COMPASS family picnic has been postponed due to the extreme heat indexes that are in the forecast for this summer. We are hoping to be done at the park by noon to avoid any heat-related problems. However, families are always welcome to bring their own lunches and stay at the park for as long as they feel comfortable.We hope you'll consider joining COMPASS!
