Alyssa Jones
My name is Alyssa Jones, but my friends just call my Lys. I'm 13 years old and live in Daleville. I've been taking riding lessons since I was in second grade. I started in the Western style but after a year changed to English. I much prefer the more disciplined style that English provides. Last summer I wanted a new instructor cause I wasn't advancing as much as I knew I could, and my new instructor; Anna De Stephano in Ft. Rucker became my instructor. Within a couple months, I started practicing jumps. I've always dreamed of jumping, and now I was starting to learn. Just two months of practicing and I earned a spot in my first show, and I won second place among 10 other girls. My instructor says I'm her star student. I've entered one more show since then, and then this weekend I will enter my third show. I'm super excited as I have become more proficient in my riding over the summer. I originally wanted to be a horse jockey, but when I hit ten, I realized I was too tall to be successful so now I'm leaning towards veterinary study with my main focus being on equine work. I volunteer a lot of my time to my riding instructor by cleaning/mucking stalls, grooming her horses, being her groomsman when she enters shows, helping train her horses, and very soon I will be helping her with lessons. If you've never ridden a horse, I highly recommend it. There's nothing like it in the world. It's also a great workout!
