September 12
Dalton Spradlin
Dalton Spradlin, Everest Academy Senior, attended the Driver's Edge intensive defensive driving program on September 12, 2010 in Birmingham, Alabama. This is a national program taught by professional race car drivers that travels the country teaching about driver safety and defensive driving skills and making it's first-time-ever stop in Alabama on September 11 & 12, 2010. The program is a combination of pre-test, classwork, demonstrations, lectures from State troopers, hands-on driving skills and post-test. There are two different driving skills practices; skid exercise (hydroplaning) and vehicle avoidance (swerving several lanes to avoid another vehicle pulling out in front of you). In Dalton's session, I would guess that there were approximately 200 students, with four sessions over the weekend for a total of around 800 - 1,000 student drivers. Dalton was awarded a trophy for Best Performance/Best Driver for the weekend and also given 2 VIP tickets to the Indy 500. Congratulations Dalton!
