Everest Academy is sponsored by Everest Family Ministry in the Birmingham Metro Area. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you are a new homeschooler, please also attend the New to Homeschooling Worskshop. We will cover the basics in the New to Homeschooling Workshop and the specifics of homeschooling a high schooler in the High School Workshop. 

What: High School Support Group
Who: Homeschoolers ages 13 and up

(Park behind library and come in downstairs entrance on the right)
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. 

What to bring:
  • Healthy snack to share and drinks for yourself. 
  • Print and bring a copy of the Everest Academy High School Handbook and Homeschooling a High Schooler portion of New to Homeschooling information before attending this workshop. 
  • Lots of questions!!!! 
  • Don't forget to bring any high school materials that you want to give away or sale. 
  • It is fine to bring your children, but please remember this is a small library. Please bring a board game or a quite activity for your child. 
Some of the things we will cover will include:
  • Graduation requirements
  • How/when to award "credits"
  • ACT/SAT information
  • High school curriculum
  • College entry
  • Worker's Permit
  • Driver's Permit/License
This group will be conducted in an open "support group" forum. Deb Spradlin will lead the group, but parents will be expected to participate and help out when appropriate. Teens will sit in and participate when appropriate and be free to socialize when it is not. Younger siblings are welcome to attend. Open to all homeschoolers regardless of cover school. 

*Please note that all information given will be Everest Academy specific. Any high schoolers participating who are enrolled in a different church school will want to check with their administrator for information specific to their church school.
