Hoover, Homeschool Ballroom Dance Classes

Each month will feature a different style of dance. We will try to hit all of the major ballroom dances during the school year, and also include some line dances and some other fun stuff. This is a skill that you will use for a life-time, plus a wonderful opportunity to socialize while learning. Attendance will be kept (and reports given out in December & again in the spring) for those who wish to use these classes for school credit (Physical Education or Fine Arts).  Hi Everyone,

 Labor Day weekend is upon us, which means it's time to start up our BALLROOM DANCE CLASSES for TEENS & KIDS again!

 CLASSES WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th.

All classes will be held at BAILEY DANCE. This is located in the shopping mall that contains Hobby Lobby on Hwy 31 in Hoover. The street address for your GPS is: 1853 Montgomery Highway, Hoover AL 35244.

We offer THREE CLASSES and invite you to attend the one that is right for your age and skill level:
  • 9:30 AM - KIDS' CLASS. This is a 30-minute class for 8 - 11 year-olds, and will be taught by our Student Teachers. This class will be learning all of the same ballroom dances as the "big kids" are learning, but at a more basic level in a shorter time frame, to allow for shorter attention spans of this age group. Each class will be end with games and/or a line dance.
  • 10:00 AM - BEGINNING TEENS. This class runs for one hour and is for teens ages 12 - 18. This class will teach the building blocks of all the ballroom dance styles to allow the teens to become proficient on the dance floor. This class will be taught by Curt* & Wendy Johnson, and will be assisted by Ray Otwell and Miah Daniel (college students who have taken this class since they were middle-school age).
  • 11:15 AM - INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED TEENS. This class runs for one hour and is for the older teens, ages 14 - 18, who have been in the Beginning class for at least one year and hopefully two years. Please do not move to this class until you feel confident in all of the beginning steps in each dance. This class will be taught by Curt* & Wendy and will cover more intricate moves in each of the dance styles.
Payment is expected at the door each week: (If you write a check, please make it to Curt or Wendy Johnson)
  • $3.00 per person for the KIDS' CLASS
  • $5.00 per person for either of the TEEN CLASSES 
  • OR $10.00 per family for any mix of classes
Please plan to come a bit early the first week, as you will need to fill out a new Registration Form with name, address, e-mail, age, & phone numbers for our records. This class can be used for school credit, and statements will be handed out twice a year for this.

Please also come in as quietly as possible if there is a class going on in the room when you arrive. We know you will be excited to see all of your friends, but at Bailey Dance, there is only ONE room, and we need to be respectful of any on-going classes. So feel free to visit on the sidelines, but remember to keep your voices down. That is so very helpful to the teacher of the class-in-progress. Thanks.

*Curt will be present for the first week of class, but on the following Tuesday (Sept. 18th) he will be undergoing a hip replacement. We are not sure how long his recovery time will be, so we have CHRIS BAILEY planning to fill in during his absence. Chris is the owner of Bailey Dance and is a World Champion Country Western dancer. We will be utilizing his knowledge and tremendous skill, and will work on Country Two-Step while Curt is out. It promises to be lots of fun.

We're off tomorrow on our third (and last!) dance cruise of this year .... and then, we'll see all of YOU in just two short weeks! YAY.
