The Curiosity rover entry and landing is just 20 days away (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_ pages/msl/index.html). I've pasted a link below to a video that shows the landing process and general idea of surface operations. Curiosity is about the size of a Mini-Cooper automobile and is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) instead of solar panels. The surface operations will be a lot slower and deliberate than depicted, but you'll get the general idea of how the cameras and science instruments operate.
