Grade One Lightning Literature is designed to ignite your student's passion for great books.
After years of success with high-school and junior-high Lightning Literature, we’re introducing elementary level Lightning Literature, starting with Grade 1. You will read great children’s books with your child, discuss them together, and use them as a springboard for grammar and composition. Each week, your child will read a book; answer a variety of questions about it; learn something new about grammar, punctuation, and/or literature; complete a few workbook pages; write a short composition; and read an Aesop’s fable. (The program allows for read-aloud and dictation for any children who aren’t reading and/or writing yet.) There are other activities as well (for example, alphabets to create together), and extra challenge projects if you wish to go further.
Help us make this new Lightning Lit program the best it can be. The current month one draft below will be updated on 9/1/12 and starting 10/1/12 and each month thereafter, we will upload the next month’s lessons for both the student guide and the teacher’s guide. You can print them out and use them. Get the books from the library (they’re all famous children’s books) or buy them. (You can see a tentative outline for the coming year here so you can plan ahead. Whenever we make changes to it, we will repost the new outline, so check back.) In exchange for a year’s free English curriculum, please send us your thoughts or suggestions on it at the end of each month. We are excited about this new adventure. We hope you are too!
