Everest Academy is sponsored by Everest Family Ministry in the Birmingham Metro Area. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

FREE, Online: IQ Learn Online

I would like to introduce you to the many FREE and/or very low cost resources for homeschoolers that are available from IQ Learn Online and APTPlus at Alabama Public Television.

APTPlus has a longstanding reputation as a trusted provider of high-quality, digital resources for teachers, parents, and students in Alabama, including homeschool and private school teachers. I encourage you to thoroughly explore the many resources available at www.aptplus.org.

We have online training courses offered in fall, winter and summer each year that help homeschool teachers learn creative ways to refresh routine content and learn ways to effectively teach challenging content. In the past six years, our program (formerly known as eLearning for Educators) provided online courses for thousands of teachers (yes, really – thousands of teachers!) in Alabama and across the U.S.

We also offer several live, streaming virtual field trips annually at no cost. The first field trip, The Will of the People, will be from Colonial Williamsburg. Pre-registration is required but the field trip itself is FREE. There are supplementary teacher and student resources for in-depth instruction. Other field trips planned for school year 2012-2013 include Mount Vernon (Home of General George Washington), the Folger Shakespeare Library, the U.S. Capitol, and other important historical locations. Field trips are free and additional materials will be available for a modest cost. Learn more about these exciting events and resources at www.aptplus.org.

Best wishes for a wonderful academic year!
