We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Dec. 10, Deadline: Alabama Homeschool Spelling Bee

It’s Spelling Time!

Hi, everyone!
It’s time to begin our spelling bee season for the 2012-2013 school year! Hopefully, everyone is off to a good start with your homeschool year.  I know that the month of September has been quite hectic in our household this year!  I would first like to thank all of you for your patience as I have tried to establish a new form of registration for the bees through Learning at Home.  I will explain that briefly in the next paragraph.  Jodi Irwin will be working with me again this year to send out study lists to those registered with Learning at Home.  Melissa Smith has volunteered to help us out this year as well, so expect to receive e-mail communication from all three of us during this spelling bee season!
One very big change this year will be my e-mail address for spelling bee communication.  It is now:  spellingtime@yahoo.com.   All other contact information will remain the same.

General time frames and locations for district spelling bees should remain largely the same, falling in January of 2013.  I will be calling the district coordinators from last year to confirm plans for this year.  I will let you know details as soon as possible.
A second big change for this year will be the ability to register for Learning at Home through e-mail with annual membership fees being paid through paypal.  This should help us register everyone very quickly and get the study lists to you immediately!  Those of you who may still prefer to mail your registrations are certainly welcome to do so!  Fees will remain the same as last year - $10.00 per family.  This will cover all children in your family who are planning to participate in the bees.  Registration with Learning at Home will open on October 10th with a registration deadline of December 10, 2012.  This should allow everyone plenty of time to register through e-mail/ paypal or by regular mail.
I will send out specific instructions for registration with Learning at Home on Wednesday, October 10th!  I know everyone is eager to get started and ready to begin studying!  I am looking forward to a terrific year with lots of accomplished spellers!  Spread the word and let’s have a great turnout for our district bees this year!  Look for more information on Wednesday!
Thanks,
Susan Alberti
