Introducing “Roman Explorations”

A workshop about Latin and the ancient Romans for elementary and middle school teachers and homeschool instructors, on-site in Rome, Italy! The target audience is those who do *not* already teach Latin.  Daily Schedule: Participants will enjoy learning simple Latin, using a colorful, engaging, kid-friendly text. In addition, participants will spend the bulk of theit time journeying through the city of Rome, witnessing the monumental sites and museums firsthand.  Accomplished instructors will provide commentary, lead discussion, and suggest relevant lessons and activities.

Curriculum: Participants will learn about the basics of the Latin language, key Latin word roots, as well as the culture, myth, and history of the ancient Romans. Participants will also learn techniques for incorporating these topics in their classrooms, and receive numerous teaching materials! No previous experience with Latin is necessary!

Itinerary: Each day’s explorations will be based around a theme important to the ancient Romans: Entertainment, City Life, Religion, Mythology, History, and Art. This structure will take us to sites like the Palatine Hill, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, a variety of museums, and many more! Plus there will be excursions to several classic yet non-ancient highlights of Rome, and of course the opportunity to dine on Italian cuisine and simply experience the vibrancy of Rome!

Key Details & More Information: The workshop runs from June 26 - July 2, 2013 and is open to any teacher of elementary or middle school, as well as to homeschool instructors. The workshop fee is $575; a deposit of $275 is necessary by December 15, 2012 to hold your place. For more information, such as a full-color brochure, a detailed itinerary, and information on how this workshop differs from an all-inclusive study tour, visit www.ascaniusyci.org/rome.
