Everest Academy is sponsored by Everest Family Ministry in the Birmingham Metro Area. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

STANFORD ACHIEVEMENT TESTING-- April 9-11, 2013, 9a.m.

Dear Homeschool Parents,

I will be offering SAT testing for grades 2-11, April 9-11 from 9:00-12:00 ish. Testing will be at Flint River Baptist Church, Meridianville, AL, in conjunction with Tennessee Valley Fellowship Coop. Grouping for testing will be : 2nd, 3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-8th, 9th-11th. The tests are different for the combined groups, but instructions and timing are the same.

Thursday, we will run over a little, as we will end with a pizza party. We’ll collect money for the pizza that week, usually about $2 each.

High Schoolers will test for 2 days. We will determine those two days, according to the schedules of families involved. High Schoolers can use calculators.

Fees are different this year for grades 2&3
Grade 2 and 3 (consumable book) $45, $46.50 by paypal
Grade 4-11, $35, $36.50 by paypal
Paypal to: fhouck8@gmail.com
Deadline for registration is Friday, Feb. 1, 2013

I take cash and check, or paypal (with paypal fee included). If your child has any special needs regarding testing, I need to be aware of this whenyou register....make a note to me. The children need to be calm during testing.. no annoying noises, pencil tapping etc., as it will disturb their neighbors. We do take breaks, so they are not sitting the WHOLE 3 hour time.. we can stretch, go to the bathroom, etc. after each section, the longest being just under an hour. We take a snack break about halfway through. (form at end of this)

If you have a 4 year degree and would be willing to help with testing, contact me, even if you’d just be available for a day, or willing to act as a substitute.

They've changed some of the way one registers, so call and talk to BJU!

This is a joint effort, and we will need an ON SITE nursery/playgroup if testers have small children needing care.

Moms, you are welcome to stay and visit with other uninvolved moms. I always need a few extra sets of eyes :) If you will not be staying at Flint River, I will need a contact person/cell phone #, in case of any emergency.

TEST PREP:
If interested in test preparation materials, you may be able to get them from Bob Jones 1-800-845-5731, call and ask. The one from Rainbow Resources is called Scoring High on the Stanford Achievement Test, and is for grades 1-8. Teacher books are around $10, students around $4 I found it to be more involved and worth the money than the one Bob Jones offered in the past (personal opinion). Rainbow Resources 1-888-841-3456. You can order these things yourself.

Remind your children that we are GUESTS of Flint River Baptist Church, and to act accordingly :)

What to bring:
#2 pencils, sharpened
snack--the healthier the better :)
light jacket or sweater.. dress in layers, the temperature varies and they need to be comfortable.
Doors open no later than 8:45 AM
Be there, ready to start by 9AM sharp!

Directions:
Flint River Baptist Church is on Hwy 231/431. It is in Meridianville, by Meridianville Middle School. It is north of the Publix on the Parkway.

You may share this information with other homeschoolers in the area who are in need of testing, as this is an open testing site.

Contact me if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Freida Houck
