Everest Academy is sponsored by Everest Family Ministry in the Birmingham Metro Area. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Feb. 17 Deadline, State Wide: American Legion Rhetorical Contest

Hey Guys,

This opportunity is something that was sent to me. Below is all of the info that I have. I am not planning to do a contest, but wanted to pass on the info in case one of you wanted to head up something.

Hi--I have uploaded 2 files regarding the American Legion Oratorical Contest Scholarship Program. It is a speaking contest based on the US Constitution. State winners win a LOT of scholarship money from American Legion, but there almost every public and private college in the state give even more money to that winner. There is also a national winner.

Homeschooled kids are welcome. Schools must have contests by Feb. 17--the Lee County District contest is Feb. 23. Kids in a cover school can certainly apply and I don't think it would be hard for cover school groups to pull together a contest of their interested kids.

Please check out this opportunity---Mike Kosalapoff, a retired teacher from AHS, now part-time at Lyman Ward, is the contact. He is very interested in this reaching homeschooled kids. His email is kosalapoff@bellsouth.net.

Good luck! Lots of smart kids out there could take home some serious college money!
