It is time to sign-up for the 2013 Rookie Rally, co-hosted by Blossomwood and Randolph Schools. The tournament will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 at Blossomwood Elementary. Attached is the Rookie Rally application sheet. The cost is $20 if you turn in your form before January 28. After Jan. 28, the cost will be $30.
The Rookie Rally is an annual scholastic chess tournament with 5 chess rounds. This is a United States Chess Federation (USCF) rated tournament. On Feb, 2, participants need to check in between 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and attend a mandatory 10:00 a.m. meeting. Each participant will play five games. The game times will start at 10:15, 11:30, 1:00, 2:15, and 3:30. The final two rounds may be sooner, at the tournament director’s discretion. Each game will last no longer than 60 minutes. YOU NEED TO PROVIDE ADULT SUPERVISION FOR YOUR CHILD (or partner with another parent so you don’t have to stay the whole day).
There will be a concession stand selling pizza, soda, and other goodies. Or, you may bring a sack lunch and additional snacks/drinks. Trophies will be given to the top 10 individuals in primary (K-3) and elementary (K-6) sections. Also, trophies will be given to the top three teams in each of these sections as well.
To participate – please fill out the attached Registration Form.
Fill out the attached entry form and mail it to Bill Nash, P.O. Box 11192, Huntsville, AL 35814. The cost to play in the Rookie Rally is $20 if entry postmarked by January 28, 2013; $30 afterwards (payable to Huntsville Chess Club – single check for entry and USCF memberships preferred – please do not staple check to entry forms).
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone that may be interested. Also, please let me know if you have any questions.
