FYI - Free Archaeology Lecture Series at UAH (open to all)
Info from Dr. Lillian Joyce, President, AIA North Alabama Society and Chair, Department of Art and Art History at UAHuntisville:
Our first speaker this spring is Dr. Katherine Dunbabin, author of The Roman Banquet: Images of Conviviality. She will be talking about all aspects of Roman dining, examining the sometimes contradictory archaeological and literary evidence. Dining was essential to Roman social life--please join us to see what it was like. Dr. Dunbabin will also be speaking about her excavations at Zeugma in Turkey. It was a multi-cultural site on the Roman frontier that was partially submerged following the recent placement of a dam across the upper Euphrates River. She is an expert on Roman mosaics and the ones from Zeugma are spectacular and an excellent window into the culture of the time.
