We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

April 27, Cullman: Navajo Knot Rag Rug & Leaf Pounding

Please pre-register for workshops by sending e-mail to CullmanFiber@yahoo.com. Pre-registering will help the leaders provide enough supplies, equipment and copies of the handouts.

You will be welcome to the workshops whether or not you’ve pre-registered, if there is space. However if you don’t pre-register, there may not be enough supplies for you and you won’t receive the handout until the following week. So, if you are at least fifty percent sure you’ll be able to attend, pre-register. These workshops are designed for adults and youth ages 14 and up.

Navajo Knot Rag Rug and Leaf Pounding/Printing
Saturday April 27, meeting at 9:30 a.m., workshop 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Supply Fee: $10, to be paid to leader at the beginning of the workshop.
Pre-Registration Deadline: April 20.
Maximum Number: 20. 19 have already pre-registered.
Location: Peinhardt Living History Farm Museum building.
Workshop open to adults and youth ages 14 and up.

Learn to make a Navajo Knot rag rug. In the workshop you will be able to finish a trivet, or take it home and complete a rug.

Finish a 12 x 12 piece of cotton fabric for the leaf pounding project.

No rug making or leaf pounding experience is required.

Bring a sack lunch.

Directions to Peinhardt Living History Farm in Cullman, Alabama:
From I-65, take exit 308 onto US 278 East. Turn right onto Talley Ho Street SW, less than 1 mile from the interstate, there is a Sunbeam bread store at this corner. Turn right at the Cullman Bowling Center (1710 Tally Ho Street NW). You’ll pass the North Alabama Agriplex Heritage Center and the Red Hill School (restored white school building) on the right. Drive through the gate, and just past the Baton Cabin (restored log cabin) on the right, turn right and drive between Peinhardt Living History Farm Museum (a metal building) on the right and another restored log cabin on the left. Park in the gravel parking lot.
