Greetings volunteer!
The 100-1000: Restore Coastal Alabama partnership invites you to help us build a living shoreline at Pelican Point, Fairhope April 6th
LOCATION: Pelican Point, Baldwin County, Alabama, near the mouth of Weeks Bay.
10299 County Road 1, Fairhope, AL 36535
TIME/DATE: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 pm (CST) on Saturday, April 6, 2013
TASKS: Volunteer will be building four reefs by connecting 20,500 35 pound blocks while wading in shallow water.
This area has experienced significant habitat loss and erosion that in turn has negatively impacted the very resources that draw residents and support local economies. Once constructed, the reefs will protect the adjacent shoreline and enhance habitat for fish, shellfish and birds, providing opportunities for fishing, bird watching and sightseeing from land, kayak or boat.
Funding for this project is made possible through grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
