Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Student Spotlight: The Oswald Family

In the pictures are Larah Oswald age 10, Hunter Oswald age 8, and their mom Kami Oswald. This is our home classroom.

This is only the second year we have been homeschooling, but these are the best school days ever. Our children were attending public school.  When I really sat down and started asking questions, I noticed that my 4th grader could not do any math, and my son in the second grade could not read. I was very concerned, so I went and spoke to the teachers and observed the classrooms. This is when I made the decision to homeschool. The teachers were not teaching, they sat the children in front of a T.V and expected the T.V to teach the children. I spoke to some of the teachers who actually told me it would be the best decision to homeschool. This surprised me. So here we are, and we are so very happy we made this decision. Our children are learning and are more self confident than ever before. Everest Academy has given us the opportunity to teach and grow closer to our children. Homeschooling may not be for everyone but for us it was one of the best decisions we ever made. I resigned from my corporate position so that I and my wife can teach. Thank you very much Everest Academy for being there for us.

If you are an Everest Academy family and have a story to share, please email it to everestacademy1@gmail.com along with a picture (not required).  I would love to spotlight your family.
