I have been working with Ms. Eve at the Auburn Public Library to coordinate a book report club for homeschoolers. This will be open to everyone but will be divided into age groups. I am definitely open to any suggestions, but here are the details as of now.
The choice of book and type of requirements are up to each family, but each child will give some kind of an oral presentation to the other kids. This might include a poster or other visual aid, costume, or anything that seems appropriate. There is no structure as far as how long it should be either, however, it shouldn't be more than about 5-10 minutes per student to allow everyone to have a chance. The focus is to keep the teaching at home, but give the students a place to practice public speaking and presentation skills.
For the older group, a power point presentation or any digital presentation media would be an option also.
We will meet once a month on the third Monday for the next two months. Those upcoming dates for the rest of this school year are:
Mar 17 (RSVP by Mar 10)
Apr 22 (RSVP by Apr 14)
All groups will meet in the large room in the children's area at the Auburn Public Library, 749, East Thatch Ave, Auburn, AL.
We will divide into age groups and meet at different times on the same day:
K-5th grades 1:00
6-8th grades 2:00
Parents for the older group are welcome to stay or drop off but must stay at the library.
I would like to get an idea of how many kids are interested, so please plan to RSVP if you would like to come. It isn't necessary to come to both months if one or the other is better, but you are welcome to come to both!
