Memorial Day Activities at American Village
May 26, 10 a.m. | The National Veterans Shrine and Register of Honor is now open. This beautiful building is patterned after historic Carpenters Hall of Philadelphia, meeting place of the first Continental Congress, Sept. 5, 1774. A historic marker at Carpenters Hall says, "Within these walls, Henry, Hancock and Adams inspired the delegates of the Colonies with nerve and sinew for the toils of war." The public is invited to the National Veterans Shrine to experience the stories of our. 10:30 a.m.: Calling all soldiers! Step forward, sign the muster sheet and join Washington's Army (Constitution Green). 11 a.m.: Hear Patrick Henry, “Trumpet of the Revolution” (Colonial Chapel). 11:30 a.m.: A musical salute to America's Veterans (Liberty Hall). This convocation will include music by the Montevallo Community Chorale. Dave Baird, ABC 33/40 news anchor, will be the special guest. Be sure your visit also includes a trip to the Oval Office, Colonial gardens, Concord Bridge and Randall Museum of American History. Play games on the Green, meet George Washington and Phillis Wheatley. Witness a Purple Heart ceremony and wreath laying at the Veterans Shrine.
