Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

July 24, Hayden: Curriculum Freecyle Event

Hello Friends,

Last Thursday, my family and Mr. Bob Manney, a former teacher of Parkway Christian Academy, moved a pickup truck and a van load of library books and curriculum to my house. These books are being discarded by the new Cornerstone School, which has taken the place of Parkway Christian Academy in Centerpoint. I am planning a huge Freecycle event at my home to give these materials away on Thursday, July 24.

Included in the selection of books are most of the elementary level A Beka readers from grades one through five, a set of Alabama history texts, Levels 1 and 2 Spanish texts (high school level), a high-school level Bible curriculum, a set of elementary level health and safety texts, other texts and reference books and a large variety of library books of all subjects.

My plan is to set up tables in the basement and back patio area of my house to display Parkway's donations. If you have books or materials you would like to donate, you are welcome to bring them and add them to the collection. All items are being given away free of charge. We have freely received, so we are giving freely! Please bring a sack, bag or box with you to take home your treasures, and pray for good weather! In case of rain, we will reschedule for Friday, July 25.

The Freecycle event will take place Thursday, July 24, from 10 am to 6 pm. All leftover items will be donated to the nearest charity afterward. My home is located at 1103 Mountain Woods Lake Road, in the Mountain Woods Lake subdivision off Highway 160, four miles east of I-65. Please be aware that parking is at a premium. Carpooling is recommended if you are bringing a group. My house sits on top of a hill and we are not handicap-accessible, but if you can get in the driveway, all freecycle items will be located in the first-floor area downstairs.

I look forward to seeing you all July 24!
