Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Dec. 2, Pensacola: Season of Light Planetarium Field Trip

Season of Light is an elegant program about the coldest and darkest of seasons — a time which holds some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year. This presentation traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season. The show also recounts the historical religious and cultural rituals practiced during the time of winter solstice — not only Christian and Jewish, but also Celtic, Nordic, Roman, Irish, Mexican and Hopi. Naturally, there is some astronomy in Season of Light. Audiences learn a selection of Northern hemisphere winter constellations, and find out why we even have seasons, as we demonstrate the Sun’s path across the sky throughout the year, and the Earth’s tilt and orbit around the Sun.

After the movie we will have a night sky viewing on projector all around us, just as it is in real time. They will identify constellations and planets. We will probably be there around 1.5 hours in total. This show will appeal to ALL ages, even though the site says grades 5 and up. Mr. Billy assured me ALL ages will enjoy this program. MAX of 99 people for event, this includes parents. I'll notify Deb when event is FULL. Wheelchair accessible. ALL ages are welcome!!
