On February 17 and 18, 2015, over 4,000 students, teachers, counselors, parent chaperones, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and exhibitors, will converge on the Auburn University Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum for the first EAWIN Career Discovery Expo. Public, private, and home schools eighth grade students, from throughout EAWIN Region 8, will have an opportunity to visit their favorite career cluster and learn about careers available close to home.
An annual project of the EAWIN, the EAWIN Career Discovery will pull together regional industries and businesses within their respective industry sectors to highlight and create hands-on interactions that link careers to the classroom.
The EAWIN Career Expo committee, which includes business and industry representatives, the career technical directors from all public school systems in Region 8, along with representatives from regional college and universities, are actively planning for the first EAWIN Career Discovery. Home schools participation in the Expo is an opportunity to enrich the lives of their eighth grade students and impact our future workforce. Enclosed with this email is EAWIN Career Discovery Quick Facts.
Eighth grade teachers will receive a teacher guide, including career exploration activities and lesson plans to help them and their students prepare for this exciting event. In addition, prior to the event, we will provide packets to participating schools, for distribution to eighth grade teachers, containing informational materials, student guides, expo map, and directions.
In addition, all schools will receive a form to confirm or regret their school’s participation in the EAWIN Career Discovery.
