Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Madison: Fall Classes at Creative Learning Connections

Two Things - We will be open during the various fall breaks coming up (the next time we will be closed during our normal hours will be the week of Thanksgiving) and we are excited to be offering two additional classes at CLC this fall. Details follow:

Webmaster Academy Home School Program:
The Webmaster Academy Home School Program will begin its first session on Thursday, October 16, 2014.  This fall the Webmaster Academy will have 7 weekly, one hour, classes where students will learn the basics of developing websites using the Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML) by means of lectures and hands-on projects.   They will learn how to create the HTML code for a website as well as how to post one on the internet.  They will also be taught the networking behind how the internet takes their website and makes it available to everyone on the World Wide Web.  These classes will be taught on Thursday afternoons from 1 – 2 pm at Creative Learning Connection.

Each student will need a laptop computer operating a Microsoft Windows 7 or newer operating system and have either a Windows Explorer web browser or a Mozilla Firefox web browser.  The cost for the one hour sessions will be $25 per week, or $150 for the entire 7 weeks.

The fall schedule will begin on October 16, 2014 and end on December 11th.  Class will not be held on November 6th or November 27th.  If there is sufficient interest after this course is over, Michael plans on offering a more advanced website development course in the spring of 2015 that incorporates JavaScript into the HTML webpages.

Sparkmakers Home School Electronics Program:
The Sparkmakers Home School Electronics Program will begin its first session on Thursday, October 16, 2014. This fall the Sparkmakers will have 7 weekly, one hour, classes where students will learn the basics of electricity and electronics.  This course will teach students, by means of lectures and hands-on projects, about what electricity is, how it works, and how to create fun electronic circuits.   They will learn the properties electricity, the difference between AC and DC voltage and current, what various electronic components are and how they work, and how to build simple electronic circuits.  These classes will be taught on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 – 3:30 at Creative Learning Connections in Madison, AL (Suite 11-A Miller Plaza, 8006 Old Madison Pike, Madison, AL 35758).
The cost for the one hour sessions will be $25 per week, or $150 for the entire 7 weeks.   Also, each student will need to pay $35 to Michael Shellem for an electronics lab kit that will be utilized in the course.

Our Home School Sparkmakers Program is a 7 week program designed to satisfy state and local home school science education requirements for middle school and high school programs and our Home School Webmaster Academy Program is a 7 week program designed to satisfy state and local home school computer science education requirements for middle school and high school programs. Parents are encouraged to verify that the program(s) will meet the specific requirements of their particular home school program.

About the Instructor:
The Webmaster Academy  and Sparkmasters are being directed by Michael Shellem.  Michael has been a professional computer, software, and electronics engineer for over 24 years.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Widener University in 1990 and a Master’s degree in Computer and Software Engineering from Widener in 2000.  He currently works as a senior mission assurance engineer for the Missile Defense Agency on Redstone Arsenal.   Michael has over 12 years’ experience as a bi-vocational youth pastor and is youth protection certified through Whitesburg Baptist Church Upward Program where he has coached soccer.  Michael is a dedicated Christian, husband, and father.  He is married to his wife Amy, they have three children, and are active members of Whitesburg Baptist Church and their community. He and his family are affiliated with The Way Home Christian School.
