Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

CREATIVE WACKY WONDERS

This mixed media art class with the Wacky Nanny focuses on imagination and creation.  Children will be led through projects that will open their creative minds and allow them to make their ideas come to life.

THE ABC’S OF SCREENWRITING

Do you have that perfect idea for a movie? You know it would be a great short film or maybe full-length feature. But how do you start? How do you leap over that first big hurdle? hrough a series of guided coursework, The ABC’s of Screenwriting gives you the proper tools and necessary encouragement to jump in and finally your brewing ideas in your mind to paper!

BOOK ARTS

A book can be more than a vehicle for stories. It is a tactile conduit of creativity between the maker and the user. Participants in this Book Arts class will utilize a variety of methods to create a few personalized, hand-sewn blank books. We will also discuss how to craft, bind and ornament art books to fit the use or user: gardening journals, cookbooks, albums, poetry folios, sketchbooks and more.

THE ARTIST’S WAY: A WORKSHOP

For 12 weeks, in a prepared and safe environment, we will walk the path of the Artist’s Way, exploring the daily writing exercises, artist dates, and other creative adventures. If you have been considering living a more creative life and wondering how to make that happen, not to fear, ArtPlay is here.

IMPROVISATIONAL COMEDY STRIKES BACK

Cost $180
Beginning improv was such a hit, we had to have a sequel. In this intermediate level class, Brian Barrett takes you beyond the basics of improv to improve your knowledge and understanding of this hilarious art form.

POETRY 101
January 20 – February 17
Tuesdays 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Teaching Artist: Tina Braziel
In this beginning class, students will learn how to develop original poems from imitating the moves made by master poets. Students will complete four poems developed in this way. In addition, students will develop the skill for developing poetry exercises from closely reading published poems.

CREATING WITH ACRYLICS

Join John Lytle Wilson and explore the medium, experiment with various techniques and subjects. From basic approaches for beginners to advanced criticism for the serious student. Join us and learn how to express yourself with acrylic.

SECRETS OF BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY

Secrets Of Beautiful Photography is designed for the casual photographer who wants to improve their photography and take the look and feel of their images to another level. We will learn some basic techniques to immediately improve the look of your images and then hone finer skills to take your snapshots and make them great shots! Bring your camera for this new class!

THE ART OF BATIK
January 14 – February 18

Cost $160 + materials
Batik, or resist dying, is wax drawing combined with hand painting using dye to create colorful designs on fabric. Messy and fun, batik is as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. In this class we will batik cotton canvas with your design that can later be a wall hanging, a pillow cover, or anything else you wish.
