Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Summer, North Carolina: Duke University Summer Session

Dear Home School Representative,

My name is Nicki Charles and I direct the Summer College and Summer Academy for High School Students at Duke University.  While many students who attend public and private schools are aware of our programs through their school counselors, we are hoping to raise awareness of our programs with students who do not attend these institutions.  Our hope is that you might help us raise awareness of our programs by sending out information either to students or parents in your organization, or by posting it in a newsletter or announcement to your constituents.  We invite any other ideas about how we might successfully inform students and parents about our programs, as we would enthusiastically welcome applicants who attend home school.

Below is a bit of information about our exciting programs directed at a student audience:

If you are currently in grade 10 or 11, spend your summer at the Duke Summer College for High School Students! With a dynamic curriculum designed for your passions and talents, we set you up for Duke-caliber greatness in the setting of our gorgeous university campus. Make friends from all over the globe as you learn from the highly-trained, highly-intriguing faculty of Duke University and earn college credit.

Or you might choose to spend your summer at the Duke Summer Academy for High School Students for students currently in grades 9 – 12! This new program for personal enrichment offers courses with a global perspective: The Global Entrepreneur, The Global Leader, The Global Communicator, The Global Healer and The Global Environmentalist.

Our new programs for 2015 also feature an evening film series and evening extended learning opportunities in Academic Writing, SAT training, and College preparation.  The classroom environment is intimate enough to gain the individual attention you need to thrive, and the residential life is full of exciting excursions and activities.

Begin preparing as our competitive application process will begin December 2, 2014 and spaces tend to fill quickly, so we encourage you to apply early.  You will find more information about our programs here: http://summersession.duke.edu/high-school-students

Both Summer College and Summer Academy include students from around the world and provide a truly international experience for you!  You can learn more about the students’ experience last summer by reading the blog they wrote here: http://sites.duke.edu/summersession2014/
