Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Jan. & Feb., Bham: FREE Writing Workshops

Spend your afternoons as an explorer in one of Desert Island Supply Co.’s after-school workshops!  Please note that our workshops are free but require registration. All workshops run from 4-6 p.m.
The Meaning of Things: Stories in Everyday Objects (Mondays)
Grades 2-9 | January 26, February 2, February 9 & February 23 (No workshop on February 16th)
For this workshop series, we were inspired by Rob Walker and Joshua Glenn’s Significant Objects project. We will source a bunch of random objects from Mission: Possible, the thrift store across the street. During each session of this six-week series, each young writer will receive one of the objects and invent a story about it. All the stories will be collected in an anthology available through the Desert Island Supply Store. led by Liz Hughey

In this workshop, we’ll think on the nature of clouds, read about clouds (including the Cloud Appreciation’s Society manifesto), go outside and gaze at the clouds, and then let our discussions and findings be the inspiration for our own poems, stories and art. We’ll assemble all the cloud-inspired work into a book for each student to take home.
