Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

April 2 - June 4, Trussville: 2015 Spring Basic Air Rifle Safety Course

2015 Spring Basic Air Rifle Safety Course

JEFFCO 4-H Shooting Sports Contact: Perry Mitchell, 205-936-0743 (C )
4-H Agent Contact: Bridgett Helms, 205-572-0924

This course is primarily a basic safety course that teaches the student the basic skills and the necessity of safe handling of rifles. We will also teach the skills required to sight-in a rifle and how to properly hold and shoot the rifle for accuracy. We will do a lot of shooting, starting the first day. Parents are encouraged to come and “watch” the class.  We will limit the class to 12 students (boys or girls). The age requirement for the class is from 12 to 16. We have two rifles that we use for the class. First are Daisy 853 pellet rifles. The second rifle is the Daisy 888 pellet rifle. These rifles are similar. The 853 is a pump rifle, the 888 is CO2 powered. We will match the rifle with the student for size and strength. Both rifles have similar accuracy and sights. The rifles are furnished for the course.

The first meeting of the class will be Thursday, April 2, 2015. We meet at the Trussville Fire and Rescue Gym (Old Elem. School) located at 421 Cherokee Dr in Trussville (35173). The class begins at 4:00 P.M. and runs until 6:00 P.M. each Thursday. Students should arrive around 3:30. The class will last 10 weeks and will finish around June 4. It is important that the students attend each of the classes, especially the first 5 or 6, since the lessons build on each other. The cost for the class is $25.00 per student. This covers the shooting supplies and the NRA Certificate at the end of the class.

This course is sponsored by the Jefferson Co 4-H, Trussville Fire and Rescue, and the Magic City Gun Club.
