Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

March 31 (Deadline March 30), Dothan: Wiregrass Museum of Art Field Trip

When: Tuesday March 31, 2015 at 9:45 to 11 am

Where: Wiregrass Museum of Art
126 Museum Ave.
Dothan, AL 36303

I'm excited to offer this field trip again this year, sponsored by Everest but open to all homeschoolers. We had a group go last year and I think it was a success. This year, I tried to fit it in before the Youth Art goes down. We have several homeschoolers this year with art up (that won too!) So I have scheduled it and I am hoping we have enough to have two groups this year. I asked that we tailor one specifically to younger ages and one to older students. Therefore please post how many children and how many adults are going, but also post the ages of the kids! We will do one group for K-4th grade and one for 5th and up but I leave it to your discretion if you feel you have a really mature 4th grader who can go up (or even a PreK3/4 who is really mature), or if you'd rather keep a 5th grade older sibling with the younger grades, etc. I talked to the education director about the art being tailored to these ages, as well as the art activity. With two groups, one can do the activity while the other takes the tour, and then vice verse. There is also that area of exploring that toddlers can hang out in while siblings do their activities.

Cost is $5 for each student participating (adults/parents and toddlers/babies free)

I want us to meet in the parking lot at 9:45 so we can divide up our groups and be ready when they open at 10. The tour is about 30 minutes and the activity is about 30 minutes, so what a lot of us do is: when it's over, we drive over to Kiwanis or Miracle Park and have a picnic lunch if the weather is nice (or say, Chick-Fil-A if the weather is not so nice...it's up to you and your budget/diets lol)

I realize for many this is Holy Week or Spring Break, but I'm hoping to get a good size group. If not, we can reschedule....the director already told me about a wonderful special event April 17th I will tell you more about soon! :) Save the date if you remotely love sewing and remotely love history and beautiful things :)

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING (or canceling) and HOW MANY by Monday morning, March 30!!! Thank you!
