Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

May 21 (Deadline April 17), Bham: Ruffner Mountain Prehistoric Fossil Find Program

May 21
10:00 a.m.

Ruffner Nature Preserve has set up a special event for homeschoolers based on their Prehistoric Fossil Find program to cater a more free-flowing style suited for exploration as we walk to the quarry. The kids can carry their own lunches and have a picnic style lunch at the quarry, and then search for fossils before hiking back. This is a three mile round trip hike and is scheduled to take three hours. If you would like to include a hike to the overlook, an additional 45 minutes must be allotted and scheduled in advance. The price will be $6.50 per person, adults and children ages 8+, with the 8 year olds having to be able to walk 3 miles over some steep elevation changes.

For the kids 7 and under, we will have a modified fossil program at the center or pavilion, where we will look at real fossils while learning where fossils come from and how they are made, and then given the opportunity to create our own fossils out of clay. They may then have their own picnic lunch at the pavilion. This program will run 45 minutes, not including the picnic lunch, and will be $4.50 per person. Children 3 and under are free. If you wish to add in a small walk , an additional 30 minutes must be allotted and scheduled in advance.

We must have at least 11 paying attendees for each of these events to reserve our spot. You may still pay after we have reserved the spot, but I need at least the minimum amount as our space is not reserved until payment is made. Please email me at breadcrumbs@bellsouth.net for payment info.

Please note that the age group trips will vary in length, so if you have a younger and an older child, you may choose to stay with the younger ones as they will need supervision after their class.  Or if you choose to, you may leave and make arrangements for someone to carpool your older children to you after their event.

Please contact Beverly McPhail at breadcrumbs@bellsouth.net.  Deadline to RSVP is April 17.
