Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Nov. 10 - 12, 2015 Dauphin Island: Dauphin Island Sea Lab Trip

When: November 10-12, 2015

Who: Students ages 12 and older, parents too!

How many: 40 MAX

What will we be doing?
November 10, we will arrive at the sea lab in the afternoon and settle in. There will be time to explore the beach nearby and go get dinner.

November 11, we will have a morning and afternoon session. Morning will be heading out to the salt marsh to learn about that ecosystem, that afternoon we will head to the lab for open question and answer time, have a touch lab where we will be able to handle several specimens and everyone will dissect a squid.

November 12, we will pack up before heading out on a 4 hour boat ride into the bay where we will cast nets and see what's out there! There is a max of 37 for the boat, so if we have a full 40 participants, some parents will have to miss the boat. We will be done by early afternoon.

Cost: $90 Total

Payment Deadlines:
  • Aug. 7 - $10 non-refundable reservation fee to hold your slot. This goes straight to the facility, and I can not refund it if you change your mind.
  • Sep. 7 - $40 per person
  • Oct. 7 - Remaining $40 per person
  • The $90 is per person (student or parent) who will be staying on campus whether taking classes or not.  If you wish for you child to attend, but you (the parent) do not want to stay on campus, there are hotel and camping options nearby.
Please send all questions to Esther at roamschool@gmail.com

Options for payment:
1. Contact Esther for mailing address to send check, cashier's check or money order
2. Credit card, debit card, or Paypal
You do not have to have a Paypal account to pay using a credit or debit card through Paypal. Go to www.paypal.com. Click on "Send" and type in Esther Crawford's Paypal account address ( esther@roamschool.com ) and the amount. Please use the option "I'm sending the money to family or friends" when using Paypal.

If parents want to come along and not take the class or have kids under 12 coming with you, there is camping and other lodging nearby. If you do have kids under 12, let me know. They have offered to arrange a class for that age group for $40 total if there is enough interest. There is a beach, fort and trails to explore nearby as well!

The reason we are getting to attend for roughly half price is-the cafeteria is closed to be renovated. So we will have to bring our food camping style. You will be free to go out for dinner each evening if you choose to! We will have access to picnic facilities, but nowhere to cook, so think protein bars, sandwiches, wraps and things you would take for a picnic.

This event is sponsored by Everest Academy but open to all homeschoolers. Please review the Everest Academy Participation Policy before attending any of our events.
