Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

There are still some tickets (https://tedxyouthbirmingham.eventbrite.com) available for TEDxYouth@Birmingham, a live simulcast of TEDYouth 2015 on Saturday, November 14, at UAB's Alys Stephens Center. Exclusively for 7th through 12th graders, TEDxYouth@Birmingham (http://www.tedxbirmingham.org/#!tedxyouthbirmingham/c54m) gives students the chance to connect and converse over TED Talks and exciting hands-on activities.

One of the featured speakers at TEDYouth 2015 is UAB’s own Dr. Sarah Parcak (http://www.ted.com/speakers/sarah_parcak) , a space archaeologist, TEDxBirmingham organizer, and TED Senior Fellow. We have an extremely limited number of tickets to participate in a "focus group" rehearsal for Dr. Parcak on the afternoon of Sunday, October 18. If you'd like to get a sneak peek of her TEDYouth Talk, get a rehearsal ticket (https://tedyouth-rehearsal.eventbrite.com) .

Tickets are available now (https://tedxyouthbirmingham.eventbrite.com) on a first come, first serve basis.

At TEDxYouth@Birmingham — and at more than 100 other TEDxYouth events tuning in live online around the globe to TEDYouth 2015 — 7th through 12th graders will gather to explore the event's theme, Made in the Future. This theme will provide youth with new perspectives on their own future job possibilities beyond traditional careers, some of which may not yet exist. TEDYouth 2015 is an opportunity for youth to think about the world in 2035, and to engage with experts who consider the corners of our intangible imagination to be the foundation for our potential future reality. Speakers will touch on an array of questions about our future, including:

  • How will artificial intelligence both limit and expand our options?
  • What will matter in the future?
  • As resources diminish, what new materials will we harness or create?
  • Which types of careers will emerge or cease to exist?

Together, we will seek to answer these questions from a number of different perspectives — scientific, cultural, technological, educational, artistic, entrepreneurial, environmental and more.
