Here is some more detailed information on the Helens Police Explorers Open House on October 26th. Thanks for sharing this info with your students!
Every fall the Helena Police Explorer Program has a recruiting drive to find young men and women that are interested in a career in Law Enforcement. Our program (which is chartered through the Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life Program) is open to young men and women ages 14-21. They will learn the in's and out's of law enforcement, compete in team competitions, be active in community service efforts, and after a probationary period can "Ride Along" with on-duty police officers. This career education experience is second to none. We believe this program to be the best way for young people interested in a law enforcement career to "get their foot in the door". Our program has graduated more explorers out to become law enforcement officers than any other in the state. Our police department currently employs 8 former explorers. There are also several more at other local departments.
We are having an Open House at Helena Senior Center (behind City Hall/Police Department) on Monday, October 26, 2014, from 5:30pm to 7pm (Directions available by calling the Police Department at 205-663-6499). There will be refreshments and demonstrations for anyone that may be interested in joining.
