Dear Church School Administrator,
For several months, I have served on a committee in Montgomery with our Alabama Secretary of State, John Merrill, as a homeschool representative. The secretary created this committee to help launch a state-wide mock student presidential election this fall. He has made determined effort to include homeschoolers in this event.
My job is primarily to spread the word. To this end, I have created a Facebook page titled “Mock Student Election - Homeschool.” https://www.facebook.com/groups/379245378947311/ I would appreciate it if you, and anyone else you can tell, would ask to become a member of this group. Certainly, we can communicate by e-mail if need be, but if you have Facebook access, it would be great if you could get your information from this group.
Graciously, Tom Walker, founder of the American Village and one of our committee members, and his staff have offered to host a bipartisan convention on their beautiful campus this summer. This will be a two-day event (with the second day being a repeat of the first) if enough students are interested. I am excited about this opportunity for all Alabama students.
Some big questions still need to be answered. I still don’t know how or where homeschoolers will cast their votes. We haven’t decided for sure what grade levels will be included. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share. Hopefully, after our meeting tomorrow, more decisions will have been made.
I will update the Facebook page tomorrow night. Thank you for your participation and help passing the word.
Sincerely,
Karin Millican
