Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

More Stories are Waiting to be Discovered, Developed, and Born!

CityU provides all the tools needed to help students become good visual storytellers.  Visual storytelling can catch attention and even touch hearts. Students of CityU will be empowered to create stories that:
  • Envelop multiple senses
  • Engage people on a deep level
  • Connect viewers to meaningful thoughts and new ideas
  • Motivate and influence action
It all starts in Section One, Development, where the students learn about the Three Act Structure and plotting the Hero's Journey. The Three Act Structure works for scripts as well as storytelling in books, movies, TV shows and short stories. It is a formula that is easily explained by the writer/director in this video...

SAMPLE - Student Writing Assignment:

After reviewing the "Mission of Visual Storytelling and History of Film, students are asked to write a one-page paper to discuss in class WHO IS OUR COMMUNITY?
  • What does visual storytelling do today for our community that is consistent to what it did in the past?
  • Does it offer identity, unity, vision and hope?
  • If not, what is it doing?
  • What about faith-based visual storytelling? Who is the community it serves? (Is it all Christians? Mature ones? Non-believers?)
  • What is it doing to offer identity, unity, vision and hope?
  • Is it doing that well?
  • Should it be doing something else?
  • How could it inspire people better?
