Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

April & May 2016 Bham: North Shelby Library Events

Good afternoon, homeschool parents! Here are some exciting events coming up soon at the North Shelby Library. 

Author Visit from Alan Katz
Monday, April 25 at 6 pm
In honor of National Poetry Month, the North Shelby Library is pleased to present Alan Katz, best-selling author of beloved funny poetry collections like Oops! and Poems I Wrote When No One Was Looking, as well as the hilarious Silly Dilly Songbooks. On Monday, April 25th, Alan will be speaking about his favorite stories, songs, and poems, and will be signing copies of his books. Join us for this evening of hilarious poetry and silly songs. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required. The program begins at 6 pm.

Art in Action 
Friday, April 29th @ 1 pm
Join us for a hands-on art program as we create a plastic bottle cap mural to display in the library. Part of our STEAM initiative (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), learn how perspective and scale can make art even more exciting! Ages 7 – 12. Registration required.

Science of Bread
Wednesday, May 11th @ 1:00 pm
Join us for an exciting, hands-on science program! Part of our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) initiative, we’re learning all about the inner workings of baking bread. From yeast to gluten, we’re getting our hands messy and learning about how science can take place right in your own kitchen. Ages 5 and up. Call the library to register. 

Homeschool Hangout: Hand in Paw
Wednesday, May 18th @ 1:00 pm
Cindy Bowman and her therapy dog Sally of Hand in Paw, Birmingham’s animal assisted therapy nonprofit, will be coming to North Shelby Library for May’s Homeschool Hangout. Cindy and Sally will be sharing how animal assisted therapy works, and who it helps in our community. Ages 7-12.  Registration is required.  Call 439-5504 for more information.

Garden Party
Friday, May 20th @ 10:30 am
Join us for stories, songs, hands-on learning and LOTS of yummy snacks, harvested from our special library garden! Come learn about plants and growing things with our STEAM initiative (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). We’ll visit our garden, listen to stories, plant some seeds to take home, and enjoy some of the delicious treats from our vegetable garden! Ages 5 and up. Registration required.
