Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

May 27, 2016 (Deadline April 29) Dothan, Tour of Dothan Regional Airport

What/Where: Tour of Dothan Regional Airport
800 Airport Dr, Ste 15, Dothan, Alabama 36303

TENTATIVE NEW DATE!!!! SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!!!! This field trip is open to all area homeschoolers. The deadline to sign up is THIS FRIDAY APRIL 29 IF OUR DATE OF MAY 27 GETS APPROVAL so that they can prepare for our visit. This is very important for security reason! We need you to post your name and the names of each child who will be attending (including LAST names). It makes it much more difficult if you just show up not on the list!!

We will break into two tour groups.
K-4th grade @ 10AM: Meet at the terminal building in the Administrative office on the north end of the building. Tour of the terminal building to include the ticketing area, passenger screening, the police department, and baggage reclaim. Travel to the Airport Fire Department, tour the fire station and equipment. The tour will end between 11 and 11:30AM.

5th-12th grade @ 1:30-3:30PM: Meet at the terminal building in the Administrative office on the north side of the building. Receive briefing on Airport Authority and Airport tenants. Tour the police department. Travel to Aero-One Aviation to learn how a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) works. Travel to fire department and tour station. Travel to Commercial jet and tour wide body hangar and aircraft paint facility. Learn what happens at an aircraft Maintenance Rehabilitation and Overhaul (MRO). Return to terminal and end tour.

If you have students in both age groups, you will need to decide how best to handle that. You may have your older ones attend with the younger in the K-4th group. Or if you younger one is mature enough, possibly attend with the older group. Or attend each separately with that age student. Each tour will be age appropriate. We will need to know your decision by the deadline of THIS FRIDAY APRIL 29 in order to tell the airport officials.

You may park in the public parking lot. Be sure to bring your parking tickets into the Administrative office (on the left side of the terminal building, indicated by the glass door marked AIRPORT ADMINISTRATION) where they will be validated so you will not have to pay for your parking.
If anyone wishes to have lunch at the airport or in the immediate area surrounding the airport, the restaurant in the terminal building, Willie’s Place, serves authentic Puerto Rican food including sandwiches and salads. The Dinner Bell is a diner that serves a meat and three vegetables on Denton Road at Paramore Rd near the intersection of Paramore Rd and Airport Dr. High Places is a restaurant specializing in hamburgers and fried foods and is located on Napier Field Rd near the intersection of John D. Odom Rd. There are other restaurants within 10 min or so along 231. If you leave and return, make sure to take your second parking ticket in for validation.

If you have any other questions, you can contact Amanda Martin via Facebook message or by phone at 334-464-2162. If we don’t know the answer, we can find out. Just as an FYI, I will not actually be attending this field trip, as we've already gone. If you would be willing to be the contact person for that day, please let me know. Everyone who has gone on the other two days has thoroughly enjoyed this field trip, so I hope that those who were sad about not making the list last time will all go!!!!

This event is sponsored by Everest Academy but open to all homeschoolers.  Please review the Everest Academy Participation Policybefore attending any of our events.
