I just wanted to make you aware of an exciting opportunity for your students that will be available on the Calhoun Huntsville campus during the next school year.
This fall Calhoun Community College will offer the Dual Enrollment EMT certificate course on our Huntsville campus for the first time. The class will meet from 2:30 – 4:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The class will continue the entire school year – beginning in August, 2016 and ending in May, 2017. Students who complete the courses with a grade of 75 or higher will earn 11 hours of EMT credit for EMS 100 (Heart Saver CPR) EMS 118 ( EMT Theory) and EMS 119 (the clinical component) and the opportunity to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. Students who pass the national certification exam or eligible for their EMT license.
Tuition for this course is fully covered by Alabama Workforce Development funds. These funds also pay for student textbooks, required EMS shirts, required clinical and planning software and supplies. The value of each of these scholarships is around $1,500.
In order to qualify for the program the student Must:
Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Have an overall ACT score of 20 or higher
Be 18 years of age or turn 18 no later than a month after the program ends
