Come experience unforgettable educational adventures at the Alabama Nature Center Homeschool Program!
The Nature Explorers Homeschool Program has been completely revamped over the past year to better fit the needs of our homeschool families. Students are now divided into smaller, age-appropriate groups which provides a more personal, hands-on outdoor experience. We had 45 studentsparticipating in our Spring semester. Check out what one of our homeschool parents had to say about the program:

This is our second semester in the homeschool program at the Alabama Nature Center (ANC). We have also had the opportunity to come to other events; the fishing rodeo, the Christmas at Lanark program, and the Water Wonders class. Both of my children loved the Water Wonders class, where they spent a few hours being guided down the trails and through the creek. They were even able to see some cottonmouths, get wet, and play in the mud! We live in Montgomery so it takes us about 25 minutes to get to the ANC. We have chosen ANC and Nature Explorers because the facility is amazing, the trails seem endless, and the instructors are wonderful. Getting kids outside of the city and manicured parks to where they can explore nature allows them to get away from a narrow focus, such as a TV or computer screen. They use all of their senses and expand their attention spans. They can learn outside of a book - touch and see new things with their own hands and eyes. The ANC has done an amazing job of allowing kids to experience this in a natural environment! I think children learn best when they actually understand the world around them, and exploration of the outdoors is key to doing so. My children love being outside and having the freedom to explore and learn about wildlife – having the ANC nearby makes that an exciting reality. At Nature Explorers, they also are able to meet new friends and take a break from the normal routine.
