Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

October 2017: North Shelby Library Homeschool (and other) Events

Hello Homeschoolers,

Welcome to October.    We have a big busy month of programming planned here at the library for everyone. 

Regular monthly Children’s Department offerings include:

·         Lego Club
  Saturday Oct. 7th @ 10-11:30.   Legos provided.   Build a creation and we will keep it on display in our glass display case for the entire month of October.   All ages.  No Registration Required.

·         Homeschool Hangout
Wednesday  Oct. 18th @ 1:00 pm.    This month’s Homeschool Hangout will be Bully Proof Yourself with Pelham Tiger Rock Martial Arts.    Registration is required.   You can register by contacting Kristy @ 439-5505,  or you can register online HERE.  For this program, since it does include some physical martial activity, Tiger Rock Martial Arts requires that all parents sign their waver before being allowed to attend.   You can click here to sign online HERE, or you can click to download PDF copy to print out HERE.  Just sign and bring with you to turn in the day of the event.

·         Garden Gates
 Monday Oct. 23 @ 4:00 pm  This month’s master gardener STEM program will be showing the life cycle of butterflies.  Butterfly puppet craft included.  All ages.  Early Elementary Focused.  Registration required.  Limited spots available.  You can register by calling 439-5505, or clicking HERE.

·         Sensory Storytime
Tuesday Oct. 24 @ 10:00 am.   A snack free, smaller scaled monthly program geared for sensory sensitive children aged preschool and early elementary.  Registration required.  Limited spots available.  Register by calling 439-5505 or clicking HERE.

·         Pumpkin Painting Workshop
Friday Oct. 13th @ 4:00 pm.  Bring your own pumpkin (BYOP) and we provide the paint and the space.    All ages. Registration Required.   Register by calling Kristy @ 439-5505 or clicking HERE.

·         1th Annual Tween Halloween Party
Thursday Oct 19th @ 6:00 pm.   Spooky campfire ghost and goulish stories,  hotdogs, and s’mores in front of a crackling fire (weather permitting).   Parents welcome!   Stories geared towards children ages 8-13.  Registration Required so we have enough food.  Register by calling Kristy @ 439-5505 or clicking HERE

·         Animal Tales Creepy Critters
Saturday Oct. 28th @ 2:00 pm.  Back by popular demand, this month’s Animal Tales live animal program will offer an up close educational show on popular creepy critters, including snakes, spiders, and a cuddly rat!   No registration for this program.  We look forward to seeing you!

·         Halloween Trick Or Treat at the Library
  Monday Oct. 31 all day.   Costumes welcome.  All ages.  No registration Required.  In addition to candy offerings, we are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project and will offer non-candy options to our families with food restrictions.  Just ask!

This month we're working with Makey-Makey! (Ages 6th – 12th grade). Registration required.

·         Teen Homeschool Art Club

·         Teen Henna
Thursday, October 12 @ 6:30 pm
A professional henna artist will cover henna basics: what it is and how it is made, origins, patterns, basic skin care and aftercare. The class is hands-on and each participant will get their own cone of all-natural, freshly mixed henna made by the artist to apply to themselves in class.  This event is for teens only (6th-12th grade).
