Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Happy April!  Here’s our list of our upcoming April Programs:

Regular monthly Children’s Department offerings include:

  • Homeschool Hangout-Basic Photography for Beginners
Wednesday  April 18th  @ 1:00 pm. Do you like photography?  Would you like to learn how to take better pictures, even if you don’t have a fancy camera?  This month, we welcome Cliff Hearn to introduce our homeschoolers to posing, framing a shot, lighting, and other basic photography skills.  Participants will practice their new picture taking skills, time permitted.  All are heavily encouraged to bring a smart phone or camera, but it is not required.   Space is limited.  Registration is required.   • Preschool Kitchen Science
Friday April 13th @ 10:30 am
Live Animal Show! Come and meet some animals! Kids will discover why it is important to replace fear with knowledge and learn about habitats and more.  Preschool age.   Registration required  Limited spots available.  You can register by calling 439-5504, or clicking HERE.


  • Garden Gates
Monday April 23rd @ 4:00 pm 
Spring is here - - time to join the North Shelby Library Garden Club!  Weather permitting, we’ll plant our Library Garden outside with NSL Children’s Assistant and Master Gardener Carol Hagood.  In case of rain, we’ll gather in the meeting room to start more seeds, rescheduling the garden planting for later. Come join the North Shelby Library Garden Club!  Registration required  Ages 5 and up!  Limited spots available.  You can register by calling 439-5504, or clicking  HERE.

  • Sensory Storytime
Tuesday April  24th @ 10:00 am.
   A snack free, smaller scaled monthly program geared for sensory sensitive children aged preschool and early elementary.  It is perfect for youngsters on the autism spectrum or any child who needs a little more framework or special attention during their storytime experience. Registration required.  Limited spots available.  Register by calling 439-5504 or clicking HERE.

  • Poetry Jam
Monday, April  16th @ 4:00-6:00 pm.   
April is National Poetry Monty.  Celebrate in the Children’s Department with several self-directed poetry activities.  Feel free to take pictures of your poetic creations.  No Registration required.

  • North Shelby Library Summer Reading Bookmark Contest
April 2nd-April 27th
Back by popular demand, we are once again calling all artists and would be artists to participate in our bookmark contest.   Create a bookmark based on the summer reading theme “Libraries Rock”.   Come to the children’s department and the teen department to pick up an entry form and instructions, or click HERE for a PDF.   Submit your completed designs to Children’s Services or Young Adult staff no later than April 27th.    All kids, ages preschool through 12thgrade.   One winner from each age group will be chosen.

  • Tween Coding
Mondays and Thursdays April 16th through May 10th.
Learn to code with Google CS First and explore art! 
This is an 8 class program. Attendance at each class is recommended but two make-up days will be held at the end of the course for students who missed class. Registration required. Grades 4 – 7 only.  When signing up for our Tween Coding Class, you will  want to plan to attend all of them if possible, as it is an 8 class course.   Also, when you sign up for the first class, you will automatically be signed up for all 8 classes.  You /won’t/ need to sign up for them individually.   To register, contact our young adult department at 439-5512, or email Kate @ nsyouth@shelbycounty-al.org, or visiting our website @ www.northshelbylibrary.org and clicking on Events to go to our April and May calendars.

  • Teen Homeschool Art Club
Wednesday April 18th @ 2:30
 This month, Watercolor Resist Painting.   We’ll be using watercolors, crayons paint and rubber cement.  Join us for an hour of creativity.  Registration Required. To register, contact our young adult department at 439-5512, email  Kate @ nsyouth@shelbycounty-al.org, or click HERE.

  • Tech Tuesday
Tuesdays  April 3rd, 17th & 23rd     @ 4:30 pm
