Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Happy May!  Here’s a select list of our upcoming May Programs.    Our entire May calendar can be found HERE.

Regular monthly Children’s Department offerings include:

  • Homeschool Hangout-Frog Dissection
Wednesday  May 16th  @ 1:00 pm.  Ms. Jan from Dynamic Education Adventures will guide us through the anatomy of frogs. We will study the parts that are visible from the outside and then open it up and see what’s on the inside too.   This program has a cost of $5.00 for each participant.    Space is Limited.   Registration in person is required:  Advance Payment is required to reserve a spot.  Because we will have dissection,  Ages 7 through 12 ONLY.    If you have questions, call our children’s department at 439-5504, or email  Kristy at nschild@shelbycounty-al.org.   
  • Preschool Kitchen Science
Friday May 18th @ 10:30 am
PeeWee Engineer Day!  Kids will get to build a boat and take it home with them.  Preschool age.   Registration required  Limited spots available.  You can register by calling 439-5504, or clicking HERE.

  • Sensory Storytime
Tuesday May 15th @ 10:00 am.
   A snack free, smaller scaled monthly program geared for sensory sensitive children aged preschool and early elementary.  It is perfect for youngsters on the autism spectrum or any child who needs a little more framework or special attention during their storytime experience. Registration required.  Limited spots available.  Register by calling 439-5504 or clicking HERE.

  • Garden Gates
Monday May 21st @ 4:00 pm 
Don’t have space for a garden plot at home? This month, the NSL Young Gardeners Club will first gather in the meeting room to learn about container gardening. Then, a short walk up to the garden terrace to plant some containers and to check on the NSL garden.  Come join the North Shelby Library Garden Club!  Registration required  Ages 5 and up!  Limited spots available.  You can register by calling 439-5504, or clicking  HERE.

  • May the 4th Star Wars Fun
May 4th 3:30-5:30
May the 4th be with you! Stop by the Children's Department for Star Wars crafts and a Lego activity. Feel free to come in costume - we will have a Star Wars-themed photo op. There will be a couple of giveaways you can enter as well.

  • Pre-Registration for Summer Reading
Begins May 21st
You will be able to register for our children’s and tween program in person, or on the North Shelby Library website.  Once registered, you can begin logging books for summer reading credit.   If you have any questions about the children’s and tweens Summer Reading Program, call 429-5504 or emailnschild@shelbycounty-al.org.   If you have questions about the Teen Summer Reading program call Kate @ 439-5512.   If  you have questions about our Adult Summer Reading Program, contact Michelyn at 439-5510.
  • Summer Reading Kick Off Party!
Saturday June 2nd @ 10:00 am-1:00 pm
Inflatables, Refreshments, Face Painting, and MORE! All Ages Welcome.    You can also register for Summer Reading while you are there.

  • Teen Homeschool Hangout-VR Scavenger Hunt

  • Teen Homeschool Art Club

  • Tech Tuesday
Tuesdays  May 1, 8, 15,& 22nd      @ 4:30 pm
