Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

WaterWorks Center for Environmental Education is the nation’s only water-treatment plant reopened as a green learning center. Water flows through and around the facility in natural wetland systems and filters impacted creek water to clean water. Multiple learning exhibits are featured inside and outside to teach students the importance of native ecosystems, sustainable technologies, and environmental stewardship. Our facility is run entirely from renewable energy. We have green roofs, wetland water filtration, wetland sewage treatment, aquariums, terrariums, animal exhibits, outdoor activity areas, and more. In addition to the educational tour, we also offer a canoe on Flint Creek, a part of the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. We will paddle on an impacted creek in the backwaters of a Tennessee River tributary and will see freshwater habitats and wildlife including herons, egrets, turtles, fish, hawks, and maybe even an alligator! For younger students, we have an outdoor activity area that consists of a tree canopy structure with a climbing rope net, a rock wall, and a swinging bridge as well as a slack line challenge, a giant rope spider-web, a cave tunnel, and much more.

Our main goal is to reconnect students with the outdoors and instill a sense of wonder for the natural world through fun and educational outdoor activities. We hope you join us.

This event is sponsored by Everest Academy but open to all homeschoolers. Please review the Everest Academy Participation Policy before attending any of our events.
