Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

Talladega: Volunteers Wanted at MGH Arena (therapeutic horseback riding facility)

Hello,

My name is Katie Hickman and I am the Volunteer Coordinator at MGH Arena, a non-profit therapeutic horseback riding facility in Talladega, Alabama. We are a PATH Premier accredited facility serving students from AIDB (Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind).

AIDB has four campuses: Alabama School for the Blind, Alabama School for the Deaf, Helen Keller School, and E. H. Gentry.  Through each school, AIDB provides services to clients with low vision or blindness, clients that are hard of hearing or deaf, as well as multiple disabilities.

Here at MGH, we teach kids from all four AIDB schools. In order to serve these students we need volunteers to help us. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our program. They help with feeding the horses, grooming, tacking, leading horses, side-walking during lessons, and many other tasks around the arena.

MGH Arena is open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Volunteering at MGH Arena is a fun and rewarding way to accumulate community service hours and we are currently recruiting new volunteers for the 2019-2020 school year. Community service hours are often required for graduation and look great on college applications. If any of your students are interested in volunteering please contact Katie Hickman at Hickman.katie@aidb.org  or call 256-761-3364.
