Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

September 2020 (Deadline Aug. 24), Virtual: Magic City Seams, Jr. (Grades 7 - 12)

Dear friends!

Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is happy to announce that we are offering another session of Magic City Seams Jr in September! Magic City Seams Jr introduces students to the fields of graphic, product, fashion, and textile design. With emphasis placed on 4-year colleges, and with diminished electives in public schools, many students are not aware of potential career paths in the commercial and applied arts. This virtual program is for those aspiring designers! During our September course, students will learn to sew several accessories and will learn how to use and maintain a sewing machine. The program is open to any middle to high school student in the Birmingham area (incoming 7-12 graders as of the 2020-2021 school year). The cost of Magic City Seams Jr is $75.00 per family and can cover multiple children within a household.

This fall we are pairing Magic City Seams Jr with our annual upcycle fashion extravaganza Recycled Runway! Recycled Runway is an Upcycle+Fashion competition where participants create an outfit from repurposed materials and fabrics to create a runway-ready look. Designers will also produce their own photoshoot showcasing their upcycled look, and the photos will be submitted to Bib & Tucker Sew-Op as part of the competition. In 2020 we are shining a spotlight on Birmingham's youth designers and the competition will only be open to students who have taken or who are currently enrolled in, Magic City Seams Jr. The theme for this year's competition is Art and Activism. Fashion serves as commentary on the world around us, and in the midst of a global pandemic and social justice movement, Recycled Runway will illustrate the ways in which fashion can and has been used for activism and advocacy.

The deadline to apply for Magic City Seams Jr. is August 24. To apply for MCS Jr or to apply for Recycled Runway 2020 please visit our website.
